Joydeep Chaudhuri never imagined that one day he would become a photographer.

After pursuing basic scholastic education, he decided that he wanted to work in the world of advertising. He signed up to a post graduate Mass Communication program at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Since visual arts appealed to him, he decided to also learn photography from Photographic Association of DumDum to support his aspirations in advertising. Following this, he did a couple of small scale projects in graphic design. But a routine restrictive ten-to-five job did not appeal to him ever. On the other hand, he felt the call to take good pictures getting stronger everyday. He had by then deeply studied the works of famous photographers like Steve McCurry, Olivier Follmi, Greg Gorman and Peter Lindbergh and was profoundly influenced by their work.

It was around this time that Joydeep got the opportunity to meet and get his photographs reviewed by the iconic film director Shri Mrinal Sen . What Mr Sen said after reviewing his photographs became Joydeep’s guiding light. He said, "Joydeep, you are not meant to be stuck in a job. Work without restraint… do what your heart desires and one day you will get the right result".

Since that day, Joydeep has tried hard to live his life unrestrained and let his heart guide what he did. In his heart, he still aspires to establish himself as a good photographer and ad creator. His tryst with photography started in 2001 and he has equal respect for every genre of photography. His personal favorite however is in portraying People and Fashion.

In his opinion, a successful photographer is one whose pictures are loved by ordinary people. That's why he always tries to capture ordinary moments in his photographs so that the common man can understand the language of his pictures.
